Dining Choices for Celiac Disease

If you’ve been recently diagnosed with celiac, your intestinal lining may have some damage to it.

This may actually inhibit some of the absorption of important vitamins and minerals in your diet. It’s important to follow a gluten-free diet completely so that intestinal lining can heal to resume normal absorption.

Individuals with celiac disease can often have lactose intolerance. It’s important to make sure you’re getting enough calcium and vitamin D for many reasons, such as bone health being one of the most important.

Other key nutrient considerations for individuals with celiac disease are making sure that you’re getting enough of the alternative grains. This allows you to have adequate fibre consumption, adequate consumption of your B vitamins, iron and zinc as well.

Things like rice, brown rice, wild rice, also quinoa which is an excellent, excellent grain to include and a high source of protein as well. Things like buckwheat is also another example. Do your research to make sure you know what grains to include if you’ve been recently diagnosed, to make sure that you get and meet all your vitamin and mineral requirements.
